The Victorian Government COVID-19 public health response was supported by the introduction of new COVID-19-related offences codes relating to breaches of Chief Health Officer (CHO) Directions the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 . There were 37,505 breach of CHO Directions offences recorded in the 12 months to 31 December 2020, driving the significant increase in Public health and safety offences, here is a breakdown by offence code:
- 837AP - REFUS/FAIL COMPLY DIR/REQ AUTH OFF (IND) – 32,619 offences
- 837AQ - REFUS/FAIL COMPLY DIR/REQ AUTH OFF (B/C) – 83 offences
- 837AR - REF/FAIL COMPLY DIR/REQ WEAR FACE COVER – 4,163 offences
- 837AT - REF/FAIL COMPLY REQ SELF-ISO/QUARANTINE – 40 offences
- 837AV - LEAVE RESTRICTED AREA W/O VALID REAS/EXC – 333 offences
- 837AW - REF/FAIL COMPLY REQ-PRIV/PUB GATHERINGS – 265 offences
- 837AX - REFUSE/FAIL COMPLY DIRECTN/REQ AUTH OFF – 2 offences.
