Statewide figures

  • The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 30 June 2022 was 341,367, down 9.6% from 377,487 incidents recorded in the same period last year. 
  • The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 30 June 2022 was 469,506. This is down 10.0% from 521,645 offences recorded in the same period last year.
  • Alleged offender incidents decreased 12.0% to 163,028 in the year to 30 June 2022, down from 185,304.
  • Victim reports decreased in the year to 30 June 2022, down 3.7% (9,894) to 256,478 victim reports.
  • Family incidents decreased in the year to 30 June 2022, down 3.1% from 93,435 to 90,553.
  • Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status decreased 0.2% (34) to 13,846 in the year to 30 June 2022.
  • In the year to 30 June 2022 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 1.3% to 4,986) while
  • Other parties decreased (down 2.3% to 5,984).
  • Unique victims decreased in the year to 30 June 2022, down 3.1% to 198,913 victims.
  • Unique alleged offenders decreased 7.2% to 83,506 in the year to 30 June 2022, down from 89,998).

Criminal Incidents
The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending June 2022 were:

  1. Melbourne (16,427.5 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 1.3%)
  2. Latrobe (9,879.4 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 13.1%)
  3. Yarra (9,460.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 15.8%)
  4. Mildura (9,082.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 22.4%)
  5. Port Phillip (8,900.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 10.5%).

 

Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending June 2022 were:

  1. Melbourne (22,504.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.3%)
  2. Latrobe (13,893.9 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 15.9%)
  3. Yarra (13,476.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 7.1%)
  4. Mildura (12,739.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 21.6%)
  5. Greater Shepparton (12,008.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 14.8%).
