Statewide figures

  • The number of criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to 31 March 2022 was 343,194, down 11.2% from 386,485 incidents recorded in the same period last year. 
  • The number of offences recorded by Victoria Police in the year 31 March 2022 was 470,405. This is down 11.5% from 531,745 offences recorded in the same period last year.
  • Alleged offender incidents decreased 18.3% to 161,270 in the year to 31 March 2022, down from 197,320.
  • Victim reports decreased in the year to 31 March 2022, down 2.5% (6,768) to 258,828 victim reports.
  • Family incidents decreased in the year to 31 March 2022, down 2.4% from 92,993 to 90,794.
  • Alleged offender incidents with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status decreased 8.3% to 13,373 in the year to 31 March 2022.
  • In the year to 31 March 2022 the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of those involved in Family incident increased for Affected family members (up 3.3% to 4,973) while Other parties increased (up 0.7% to 6,036).

Criminal Incidents
The highest criminal incident rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending March 2022 were:

  1. Melbourne (14,582.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 4.6%)
  2. Latrobe (10,243.8 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 14.1%)
  3. Mildura (8,897.6 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 11.6%)
  4. Yarra (8,734.4 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 19.6%)
  5. Greater Shepparton (8,622.3 incidents per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 3.0%).

 

Recorded Offences
The highest recorded offence rates in Local Government Areas in the year ending March 2022 were:

  1. Melbourne (20,082.4 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 4.5%)
  2. Latrobe (14,412.8 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 16.0%)
  3. Greater Shepparton (13,017.7 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 7.2%)
  4. Ararat (12,563.2 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, down 6.7%)
  5. Mildura (12,547.5 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population, up 11.5%).
