Which make of vehicle was most stolen in Victoria in 2014? New statistics show that Holden vehicles were the most common make of car stolen in the year to 31 December 2014 in Victoria.

The number of motor vehicle thefts increased across the state by 11.5 per cent in 2014 compared to 2013, with Holdens making up 15.4% of all vehicles stolen.

Hume Local Government Area (LGA) recorded 1,064 motor vehicle theft offences in 2014, the largest number in the state; however, the LGA with the highest offence rate was Darebin, recording 639.3 offences per 100,000 estimated resident population.

More than 80 per cent of alleged offenders were male, and were most likely to be under the age of 24.

Top five makes stolen to 31 December 2014:

  1. Holden (2,791 vehicles);
  2. Nissan (2,634 vehicles);
  3. Toyota (2,337 vehicles);
  4. Ford (2,140 vehicles); and
  5. Honda (1,051 vehicles).
