Data revision - Rates per 100,000 population for Police Service Areas in 2010

The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) has identified an error in the calculation of the 2010 rates per 100,000 population for Police Service Areas (PSA) in the data released on the CSA website on 20 June 2019.

The CSA has identified that incorrect PSA population figures for 2010 were used to calculate the rates per 100,000. This incorrect calculation has had minor implications for the 2010 rates but has not impacted on the number of offences recorded or criminal incidents for the Police Service Area’s or any data or totals appearing elsewhere in the visualisation or anywhere else in the published recorded crime statistics for the year ending 31 March 2019.

The Recorded Offences visualisation tab ‘Offence rate per 100,000 by offence type and PSA’ has been updated as has ‘Table 05-06 and 14-15 Offences recorded and rate per 100,000 by offence type, police service area (PSA) and LGA – April 2009 to March 2019’. The revised data can be accessed on the CSA website on the Recorded offences (External link) webpage.

The Criminal Incidents visualisation tab ‘Criminal incident rate per 100,000 by principal offence type and PSA’ has been updated ‘Table 05-06 and 12-13 Criminal incidents and rate per 100,000 by offence type, police service area (PSA) and LGA – April 2009 to March 2019’. The revised data can be accessed on the CSA website on the Criminal incidents (External link) webpage.

The CSA rectified this data error on 12 September 2019 and has refreshed the visualisation and excel files to reflect the correct rates per 100,000 for Police Service Area’s in 2010. If you have used data contained in these visualisations or files, please ensure you refer to the new data available on the website.
